Ok, confession time…
Being a Mom doesn’t come naturally to me.
I was not the little girl who dreamed of a husband and kids and a white picket fence. I actually don’t remember dreaming at all.
I know there are some Moms out there that were just born with that innate Mom thing. They have all the cute Pinterest stuff and make their kids these awesome lunches and knows how to braid hair awesome and their kids are in every activity and sport.
I was NOT the Mom with the diaper bag with every possible solution to every possible problem. If my kids face got dirty or had snot running down their nose….well, it either stayed there or, well, it just stayed there!
I am not what you would call a “candy land Mom”
You will not find me on the ground playing with my kids. I just don’t want to. Does that make me a bad Mom? Well, your opinion doesn’t have to be my reality, and I know that being a Mom has little to do with keeping a roof over their heads and food on the table. That is our job and all, but that is not the main purpose that the Lord blessed you with children. But again, any fool can have children. You have sex unprotected, you get pregnant. I believe having and raising children is our opportunity to do something GREAT. To raise champion’s that go out and invent something really cool, or build water yard’s, or school’s in Haiti.
My kids didn’t get just any mediocre parent’s. They got world changer, big dreamin parent’s, and I believe that breeds world changing, big dreamin kids!
And I can’t change the world chasing dust bunnies and playing candy land with my kids.
I didn’t start out my Motherhood great….well, not even good. That is a whole other blog post and I have to focus here people.
I had a self-destructive heart for a very long time.
I have heard a few say “I wish parenting or marriage or life came with an instruction manual”
Um….. it does fool….. it’s called the Bible (👈see, I’m not a nurturer)
Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth)
When I said Yes to Jesus, I said Yes to making disciples including and most importantly starting with my 4 amazing, beautiful, smart, gifted, I don’t deserve them children! I mean, I’m not being biased, I have the most beautiful kids on the planet, take a look at them!
I know the most important thing I can do as a Mom is raise my kids into awesome adults who are leaders in their home, church and community! It isn’t the
Church’s job or the Private Christians school job that they attend to teach my children about Jesus and what being a follower looks like. I’m not raising “religious” people. Religion is what keeps people away from Jesus.
But this Timehop thing slays me most days.
I am a “do as I do” parent and leader in general.
My kids have seen me in my Bible every day for the last 12 years.
And let me just say, my kids, are pretty awesome!
So here is some advice…. don’t compare yourself with that candy land Mom. Trust me, feelings of inadequacy suck! It will steal from you!
I don’t even feed my kids anymore most days….. I’m like, “what? Are your hands painted on?”
True story, just ask them!
But the point to this story is this: if you are a world-changing woman like me and you run across those overachiever Mom’s who have kids that are the #1 player on their team, champion horse rider, ice skater, get in 40k a steps a day and just win at everything they do…..don’t you dare feel inadequate. I can bet that they do all those things because maybe they are ignored by their husbands? I don’t know the case, but don’t you dare compare yourself to anyone else. You were designed for a great purpose! And if you were blessed with children, just remember your job is to raise them into great adults. They need to learn how to clean and cook, and pay bills, and have table manners. Everyone else thinks they know how to raise your kids better than you…..we call those people, “all the answers none of the money” people!
That is funny, I don’t care who you are!
Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it.
